Vodafone, EE & 02 Roaming Charges in Turkey
One of the most important considerations you will need to take before travelling to Turkey is whether you can use your phone abroad using your current network carrier (02/Vodafone etc). In June 2017 a law was passed which meant roaming in Europe had to be comparable in cost to using your phone in your own country. Now, before you get too excited, the majority of Turkey is not in Europe and therefore a lot of networks have not included this country as part of there free roaming packages.
Out of the carriers I looked at, the only one that was free was Vodafone.
This table also includes the 02 Roaming Charges in Turkey.
|02||£1.50/min calling, £1.25/min receiving||40p per text||£6 per mb||02 Roaming|
|Vodafone||Minutes use Home Plan (Free)||Texts uses Home Plan (Free)||Data uses Home Plan (Free)||Vodafone Roaming|
|EE||£1.50/min calling, £1.50/min receiving||50p per text||£5 for 500mb data add on||EE Roaming|
|BT||£2.20/min calling, £2.05/min receiving||40p per text||£8.30 per mb||BT Roaming|

What to do if you do not have a free network
If your mobile network is not Vodafone or another free roaming carrier then you should ensure that your roaming is turned off on your mobile settings and simply use WiFi hotspots when you find them.
One other option would be to buy a travel SIM card or simply buy a local card when you arrive in Istanbul. For around a 100₺ £15.95 you can buy a SIM Card from Vodafone Turkey or another Turkish network, Turkcell. This will come preloaded on a 1 month tariff which will have around 3gb of data and unlimited minutes/texts. This is worthwhile if you visit Istanbul more than once. Once you have the SIM Card, subsequent top-ups for the same tariff cost 25₺ £3.99.
