When travelling to Istanbul you must look at Turkey Visas () and find out if you need one or if your type/origin does not require such documentation. Fortunately, at least for British Citizens (whom I aim this blog post to), it is extremely easy to do so and should only take ~5 minutes to complete. Fantastic!

The whole process for getting Turkey visas can be done online using the following link: https://www.evisa.gov.tr/en/. Please never try and get it from another website who claim to make it easier as really it is just a scam to take your money. Use the official link that is above or on the front page of this website. You can also find it by typing “Turkey E ” on Google and it should be the first non-ad result.

When you go on the above website it will look like the screen shot below:

E-visa for Turkey -Turkey Visas

Simply click “Apply Now” button (the red one!) and you will be asked for your country, passport type and to enter a captcha style sequence (to prove you are not a robot!).

The form will then tell you if you require a visa or not and how long it is valid for.

You then need to follow the prompts on screen and fill out passport information as well as name, age & address. Following this It will send you a link to the email address you provided, click on this to verify, pay $20 (Approximately £15) and you will be given a download link for your visa. Done!

Your visa will look something similar to the document below:

E-visa for TurkeyAs you can see it is written in both English and Turkish. Please ensure all this data is correct for you, if you have spelt your name wrong, or mistyped your Passport number then you will most likely be refused entry to Turkey.

As a British Citizen with an ordinary red passport, I get a multi entrance visa for 90 days within a 180 day rolling period. Which means I can enter Turkey as many times as I like during 6 months for a total stay of 3 months in Turkey. Once the 6 months if up, I can reapply for another visa and get the same again. However If I entered turkey and stayed for 3 months, then I would have to leave Turkey for 3 months before I could apply again. Hopefully this makes sense.

Please leave any questions or thoughts about Turkey visas in the comments and I will try my best to answer them.

Happy Travelling!
