This airport is named after the first Turkish female pilot Sabiha Gökçen. She holds an important place in the history. She is the first female war pilot in the world! Being born in Bursa, she was adopted by the founder of Turkey Republic Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. After going Eskişehir Military Air Force Academy, she became a war pilot. She was chosen among the best 20 pilots in the world history and she is the first and only female war pilot in the world who holds an award for it.
