Day of Proposal!
On the 21st of May 2017 I, Luke, proposed to Demet in Istanbul after dating for four years in two different countries! During this time we had visited each other 18 times for over 300 days in total which is pretty good going considering we both work full time!
This had been planned for about a year prior having had to get ring measurements early and of course arranging flights! Despite this, I some how managed to keep it secret to Demet who up until the day had no idea what was to happen! In fact, one of the first questions Demet asked when I landed in Istanbul was “Did you bring a ring?!” expectantly. Naturally I had to lie and tell her I had not bought one yet (or so she thought!).
I chose to have the proposal at the Maiden’s Tower after researching best places for a proposal in Istanbul, since she loves the sea, this seemed perfect!
At around 3pm we went to Üsküdar where you can get little boats to take you to the Maiden’s Tower. Before 6pm, you have to pay for these little shuttles as there is a museum at the tower to see, after 6pm you can only visit if you have a restaurant reservation. We had this reservation but wanted to go earlier.
Yeah, our boat was the brown one in the background! A lot smaller than we were expecting!
Once we arrived at the Maiden’s Tower, we looked at the museum and went to the top to have some drinks in the cafe.
At 5pm the Tower was shut to switch from Museum to Restaurant. I managed to persuade the staff to let us stay at the Cafe whilst they were doing this so that Demet & I had the Maiden’s Tower to ourselves!
This then presented the perfect moment I was hoping for! I proposed to Demet on the balcony at the top of the tower.
After one of the most nerve wrecking moments of my life, she said Yes and we had a lovely dinner in the restaurant!
